CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) — Financial help is coming for those who help care for the developmentally disabled.

Gov. Jim Justice (R-WV) announced on Thursday a 15% increase in provider waiver rates. These will begin on Oct. 1.

Issues raised by waiver and state plan service providers have included workforce pressures, staffing shortages, turnover and reimbursement levels.

In addition to the rate increase, the Bureau of Medical Service will remove an additional 50 Intellectual/Developmental Disability, or IDD, members from the waitlist, allowing people to live at home instead of being institutionalized. This is on top of 99 people being removed on July 1.
