    WVSSAC Eliminates post-season baseball sectional play

    CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) — The West Virginia high school baseball post season will not have sectional play in 2025.

    The decision, according to a press release, was approved by the WVSSAC Board of Directors and was unanimously supported by the baseball coaches committee.

    Accordnig to the press release:

    “Each region will be divided into two double-elimination brackets, with the winner of each bracket advancing to a best-of-three series. The winner of this series will secure a spot in the state tournament.”

    Regional bracket seeding will be determined by a vote of coaches.

    Home field advantage will go to the team with the higher seed. The higher seeded team will also host the first and third games of best-of-three series.

    Here is a regional bracket example provided by the WVSSAC:

    · An 11-team region will have a 6-team bracket and a 5-team bracket

    · A 10-team region will have two, 5-team brackets

    · A 9-team region will have a 5-team bracket and a 4-team bracket

    · An 8-team region will have two, 4-team brackets

    · A 7-team region will have a 4-team bracket and a 3-team bracket

    · A 6-team region will have two, 3-team brackets
