    15-year-old missing swimmer drowns off Myrtle Beach coast, coroner says

    MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — A 15-year-old boy drowned off the coast of Myrtle Beach over the weekend, according to the Horry County Coroner’s Office.

    Authorities found the body of missing swimmer Edwin Gonzalez-Rosendo near 18th Avenue South. He was visiting from the Shannon area of Robeson County.

    Authorities said his body was found at about 6:30 p.m. near the Hampton Inn between 18th Avenue and 20th Avenue South.

    Myrtle Beach ocean rescue and beach patrol crews initially entered the water to begin searching around 12th Ave. S. at 5:20 p.m. for calls of two people in distress. Authorities said one person was rescued. Fire, police and Coast Guard units then began searching for Gonzalez-Rosendo.

    Myrtle Beach police are investigating.
