    Man to be charged after Ohio construction workers struck by vehicle

    UPDATE (10:40 p.m. on August 26, 2024) — Troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol have confirmed that the man believed by investigators to be responsible for hitting the two construction workers in Racine Village will be charged.

    Impairment is suspected and the investigation is ongoing.

    The injuries of both affected workers are reportedly not life threatening.


    UPDATE (8:50 p.m. on August 26, 2024) — The Meigs County Sheriff’s Office has released new information regarding an incident where two construction workers were hit by a vehicle Monday evening.

    According to Meigs County Sheriff Scott Fitch, the sheriff’s office first received a call about the incident at 4:52 p.m. The caller said that the vehicle involved was a white truck and that it had left after striking the two workers, who were working on a sidewalk project in the area.

    A deputy was able to locate the vehicle at a nearby residence and detained a man who was believed to be the driver. Ohio State Highway Patrol later took custody of the man, and after giving him a sobriety test, decided not to arrest him, according to Sheriff Fitch.

    13 News reached out to the Ohio State Highway Patrol for comment and will update as the story develops.


    MEIGS COUNTY, OH (WOWK) — Two construction workers were hit by a vehicle in Meigs County, Ohio Monday.

    According to a post on the Racine Fire Department Facebook page , the incident occurred near the intersection of 5th Street and Vine in Racine Village. Meigs County EMS was able to stabilize both patients and the nearby football field at Southern High School was used as a landing zone for a transport helicopter.

    One worker was flown via HealthNet to a local trauma center while the other was transported by ground to a local emergency department.

    The vehicle that struck the two workers was not found at the scene.

    Also on scene were members of the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office and Ohio State Patrol.
