    Charges pending after Charleston crash sends three to hospital

    UPDATE: (10:43 P.M. Tuesday, Aug. 27) – There is new information regarding a crash on Charleston’s West Side that sent three people to the hospital, including a nine-year-old.

    According to Charleston Police, debris was spread across a block on Tennessee Avenue near Virginia Street after a driver hit the Travelers Insurance building, but the building reportedly suffered no structural damage.

    Police suspect that speeding and running a red light may have been the cause of the crash. There are charges pending in this case.


    UPDATE: (7:32 P.M. Tuesday, Aug. 27) – Police on scene tell WOWK 13 News that a total of five people, including three children, in the vehicles were transported to the hospital.

    Police say four people in one of the vehicles had minor injuries and were taken as a precaution. The driver of the other vehicle was taken to the ambulance on a stretcher with possible head or neck injuries.


    CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – One person has been taken to the hospital after a vehicle struck a building after a crash on Charleston’s West Side.

    According to Kanawha County Metro 911 dispatchers, the crash happened just before 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of Tennessee Avenue in Charleston. WOWK staff on scene say two cars were involved and one vehicle allegedly ran a red light at “a high rate of speed.”

    Dispatchers say the vehicle hit the Travelers Insurance Companies building. There is no official word yet on the extent of the damage.

    One person has been taken to the hospital, according to Metro 911, but there’s no word on the extent of their injuries at this time. WOWK’s crew on the scene says at least one other person is also being treated for injuries.

    The Charleston Police Department and Charleston Fire Department are on scene. Dispatchers say drivers should use caution in the area.
