HUNTINGTON, WV (WOWK) – Marshall University’s head football coach Charles Huff spoke to Media Tuesday as the Thundering Herd kicks off its 2024 season.

The Herd will open against the Stony Brook Seawolves at 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31.

Although Stony Brook had a winless season last year, they have a new coach and 40 new players. However, after struggling against their opponent in their season opener last year, Huff says his team is not taking their opponent lightly.

“The challenge is not everyone’s kind of like ‘oh, well, it’s a one double A school or a lower-level school,’ well, I’m sure Notre Dame said that about us when we showed up,” said Huff. “It’s not really the old ‘you’re just playing the logo.’ You really have to prepare every single week to be the best versions of yourself because you really don’t know.

Marshall has not announced the starting quarterback for this season. However, the choice is an ongoing battle between Tulsa transfer Bralon Braxton, North Texas transfer Stone Earle, and Cole Pennington. Huff says all three are expected to play Saturday.
