CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – Tails are wagging at the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association again, thanks to a little help from the community.

On Monday, the KCHA announced a tree had come crashing down into the fence of their lower field, where they take some of the dogs out to exercise throughout the day. Staff members said they had just finished up play groups for the day and, fortunately, no people or animals were injured in the incident.

As happened when a U-Haul crashed into their building or when a local resident started a GoFundMe to get the KCHA a new generator , the community immediately stepped up for the KCHA, and the fence is already fixed as of Wednesday afternoon!

According to KCHA officials, a crew from the City of Charleston made time in their schedules to go out to cut up and haul off the tree. Then, JH Tomblin Fence Co, Inc. not only donated the fencing needed to repair the one that was destroyed but also installed the new fencing.

KCHA says the fencing company also fixed a fence that had been down for a while, giving the KCHA staff even more space to take more dogs out to play at once.

Officials with the KCHA also thanked a volunteer, identified only as Patti, who made calls and helped coordinate the efforts to repair the fence as soon as she learned of the damage.

“We’re so thankful! This year has been full of hardships, but seeing folks continue to show up to support the shelter animals makes our hearts full,” the KCHA staff said.

Not only did people help with the quick repair of the fence, some folks helped out just by making donations to brighten the staff and the animals’ days. The KCHA staff also thanked everyone who sent toys, peanut butter and treats to help keep the dogs entertained and happy.

For ways to help the KCHA through donations or volunteer work, visit their website or their Facebook page. For donations, the KCHA says items can be dropped off in person during their business hours – 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Anyone wanting to donate can also donate through the KCHA’s Amazon or Chewy wishlists.
