CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – The Charleston Dirty Birds are helping to change the game for women in their area.

As part of Dress for Success, the Dirty Birds are collecting donations of women’s clothing so that employment can be closer in reach. With the right attire, interviews are more accessible, and women feel more empowered to achieve economic independence.

Dress for Success clients receive a couple of outfits to get past the interview process. Then once they gain employment, they get a week’s worth of job-specific clothing along with shoes, makeup, hair products, jewelry and a handbag.

“Andy Shay, owner of the Dirty Birds learned about Dress for Success and said ‘What can we do to help?’ and that led us here to the donation drive today,” said Jessica Hudson, executive director of Dress for Success River Cities. “So, it’s a perfect opportunity. It’s a beautiful day – perfect opportunity to stop by, drop off some clothes and make a big difference.”

Donations were accepted until the ticket office closed Wednesday night in exchange for a free ticket to the night’s game!
