    Woman identified in fatal Lincoln County crash

    LINCOLN COUNTY, WV (WOWK) – Lincoln County authorities have identified a woman who died in a vehicle crash earlier this week.

    According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, the single-vehicle crash happened around 1 p.m. Tuesday along Route 214, also known as Midway Road, on Sumerco Mountain, which is just north of Summit Ridge Road. Lincoln County Sheriff Gary Linville says the driver, identified as Michelle Cooper, of Griffithsville, died from her injuries.

    Sheriff Linville says Cooper’s Jeep pickup truck was traveling north on Midway Road when it hit a guard rail and landed 30 feet over an embankment. Cooper was taken to CAMC General Hospital where she later died of her injuries.

    Linville says they are still investigating the cause of the crash and that the sheriff’s office extends their “deepest condolences to the Cooper family during this difficult time.”
