CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) — West Virginia has one of the most distinct shapes in the United States. As such, finding its northernmost point is as simple as going up its northern panhandle.

The northernmost point of the Mountain State is an intersection of state lines between Ohio, Pennsylvania and of course West Virginia, all converging in the middle of the Ohio River.

In regards to land, the northernmost point lies at the West Virginia-Pennsylvania state line, right next to where Mill Creek connects to the Ohio River.

As for the closest town , that would be Chester, famous for its giant teapot . Chester became the northernmost town when the state formed in 1863, though the border itself formed due to a dispute between Virginia and Pennsylvania in 1779.
