CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – A popular one-stop-shop store in Charleston and Barboursville will be closing its pharmacies.

Drug Emporium Owner Bob Petryszak confirmed to WOWK 13 News that the pharmacies for its stores in Barboursville, Kanawha City and Charleston’s West Side will take effect on Sept. 11, 2024, which will be the last day for filling prescriptions at Drug Emporium pharmacies.

Petryszak says the closure is due to high costs, and they are hoping for “a smooth transition.” According to company officials, all prescriptions will be transferred to the Walgreens store nearest to each of the three stores.

The closure of the pharmacy will not impact any other department of the Drug Emporium. Petryszak says all of the stores’ front-end departments, such as Healthy Market, will remain open for business as usual.

People need to understand that is a pharmacy doesn’t have business it’s hard to keep them open. So if you use CVS or Walgreens or Kroger here is the result. This has zero to do with politics and more to do with where you spend your money. Same thing happens to restaurants and small businesses
