HUNTINGTON, WV (WOWK) – Three different Marshall quarterbacks had touchdown passes in this weekend’s dominant win over the Stony Brook Seawolves.

Stone Earle, a North Texas transfer, was named the starting quarterback in the Herd’s season opener and had two touchdowns after a slow start, but found his rhythm in the second quarter. Quarterback Braylon Braxton, a Tulsa transfer, also had two touchdowns in the game, and quarterback Cole Pennington had one touchdown.

On the other side of the ball, Marshall’s Chris Thomas broke up two passes and had six tackles, and Jordan Reagan also had an interception for the Herd. Mike Green finished the game with a career-high nine tackles, including 1.5 sacks.

The final score for the game was 45-3.

“So, like once the offense gets rolling, and they bring some excitement, it triggers the defense automatically,” said Mike Green, defensive lineman for the Herd. And it’s vice-versa also. When we make big plays and everything like that, it fires up the offense. So it’s kind of like ‘we got your back, you got our back’ kinda thing,” said Mike Green, defensive lineman for the Herd.

“Again, we’re trying to see, like, with 40 new guys, who do we really have, you know? What can they do in game situations, you know? So I thought, defensively, up front, we were able to kind of stop the run without having to blitz or add guys to the box, so that was good,” said Charles Huff, Marshall Head Coach. “Obviously, we played a lot of guys, so we got an opportunity to evaluate those guys. Some of those guys haven’t played a lot of football even though they transferred from xyz schools, so it was good to see them in live action.”

Saturday, the Herd travels to meet the Hokies who are 0-1 on the season. Virginia Tech lost to Vanderbilt this weekend in overtime. The final score for that game was 34-27.

In the 2023 season, Marshall defeated the Hokies 24-17 in Huntington
