Woman dies following Winfield scuba diving incident

PUTNAM COUNTY, WV (WOWK) – A woman taken to the hospital after a scuba diving incident in the Kanawha River has died, Putnam County Sheriff Bobby Eggleton says.

According to Eggleton, the West Virginia State Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled the woman’s death as an accident.

The incident happened Wednesday, Aug. 28 in the Winfield area. Eggleton has identified the woman as 48-year-old Archele Faye Griffith.

She was taken to CAMC for medical treatment, but Eggleton says she passed away this weekend.
