CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) — We’re starting to get a clearer picture of what might be included in a special legislative session in West Virginia.

Gov. Jim Justice (R-WV) said we will have more specific details on the special session on Monday when he makes his official announcement.

West Virginia voters will consider amendment to ban physician-assisted suicide

The governor wants lawmakers to give workers in West Virginia an additional 5% cut in their income taxes, and many in both parties are hoping for childcare subsidies and tax credits, to ease the burden on working families.

“The need for childcare so people can work. So, folks can work, because if they don’t have a place for their kids to go, they can’t get to work. So, we have a massive need in the state of West Virginia for childcare,” said Del. Kayla Young, (D) Kanawha.

“I gave you that two months ago. That what I was going to propose was a 5 percent tax cut. If we want to do more than that, just tell me how we can do it,” said Gov. Jim Justice, (R) West Virginia.

Some Republican leaders have concerns about how much an additional 5% tax cut would affect the state’s finances. So, the governor is trying to negotiate a deal with them that would be acceptable.

As for now, the state has enough money to help subsidize daycare providers until the end of this year. It is hoped by many, that lawmakers and the governor can extend that funding.
