MILTON, WV (WOWK) – Milton residents have been expressing concerns about murky tap water for years, but now there may finally be a sense of relief in store for the community.

Del. Daniel Linville (R-Cabell) told 13 News that the city is working with the state on possible solutions.

Linville said the city has submitted a grant application to state agencies for around $5 million to replace the aging water lines.

In addition to this funding, the Cabell County Commission has dedicated $1 million to Milton as part of their American Rescue Plan Funding.

This was given out several years ago when the city first started experiencing major line breaks and other problems now associated with their water.

One community member said that the money cannot come soon enough.

“If I wanted to make mud pies I would go out to my yard. But when it comes out of your faucet that’s scary so now I have an extra added cost being here because I only drink bottled water,” Charles Stephens, Pastor of Union Baptist Church, said.

There is not a clear timeline on the application process, or when the pipes could expect a fix. We did reach out to the City of Milton for comment and did not hear back.
