CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – With the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack just days away, a West Virginia non-profit is honoring the first responders who put their lives on the line on a regular basis.

The non-profit, LifeBridge, has created a First Responders Meal Project to serve those who serve our communities. The initiative is a way to offer a delicious meal at no cost to them, to say “thank you,” and to remember that fateful, tragic day.

“I remember exactly what I was doing exactly at that time. And so, being able to still serve our first responders that, you know, either lost a partner, or a best friend, or brother, or sister, or whether they were just serving as a first responder in that time. Lasted impacts on all of us,” said Dijen Signorell, with LifeBridge AmeriCorps.

First responders include community heroes such as firefighters, police, EMS workers and 911 operators.
