CEDAR GROVE, WV (WOWK) — A man is being charged with malicious wounding after they allegedly shot another man in the leg Friday night in the Cedar Grove area.

According to a release from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received a call around 11:41 p.m. that someone was outside the Cedar Grove Fire Department claiming they were shot. The victim, a 62-year-old man, had a gunshot wound to the lower leg and was later taken to the hospital with “serious but non-life-threatening injuries.”

After arriving, responders learned that the wound was from an altercation with 59-year-old John Lee Herald of Cedar Grove, with deputies believing that the shooting occurred on E. Geroge Street and was the result of a personal property dispute where Herald allegedly produced a firearm and shot the victim.

Herald is being charged with one count of felony malicious wounding and is being held at South Regional Jail on a $15,000 cash-only bond.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information related to the incident should contact the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office at 304-357-0169.
