EDITOR’S NOTE: 13 News was originally told by EMS officials that Boyd County schools were also on lockdown. The Boyd County Sheriff’s Office says they are not. This story has been updated.

UPDATE (4:16 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 9): A social media post that threatened Mingo County schools was part of a spoofing incident from Arkansas, the county sheriff’s office said.

They said the post threatened school shootings at multiple locations, including Mingo. This caused all schools to go on a precautionary lockdown.

The sheriff’s office said these hoax threats have been happening at multiple schools in different regions.

UPDATE (3:41 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 9): Mingo County Schools are working with other agencies on school dismissal as the school is still under a precautionary lockdown following an alleged threat.

That’s according to the Mingo County Board of Education’s Facebook page.

They said buses are being dismissed first and one hour early, and then officials and law enforcement will facilitate parents picking up their children. High school students who drive themselves to school will be brought out to their vehicle by law enforcement.

Staff will then be let out once the students have left the building, and all practices and contests are being canceled, according to the board of education.

MINGO COUNTY, WV (WOWK) — All Mingo County, West Virginia schools are on a precautionary lockdown on Monday morning, according to the county board of education.

They said the lockdown is because law enforcement from Boyd County, Kentucky, said a social media post mentioned a possible threat in different counties. The Boyd County Sheriff’s Office said the threat doesn’t mention their county and there is “no direct threat to our schools.”

The Mingo County Sheriff’s Office said all deputies, both on- and off-duty, are at the schools.
