POINT PLEASANT, WV (WOWK) — Main Street Point Pleasant is working with the Mason County Commission to build a parking garage to help with a lack of downtown parking during festivals.

The desired site for the new garage would be on top of the pre-existing parking lot behind the Mason County Courthouse. With it, Main Street Point Pleasant would like to build a three to six story parking garage with the room to park between 100 to 200 cars.

“I think it’s really important that we would have better access to parking because we are a small town with big events,” said Brittany Sayre, an employee for the Mothman Museum, Point Pleasant Trading Company and Bunker 304. “And it’s not just the Mothman Festival, we have lots of other things that happen downtown. We have car shows, we have big parades, different activities at the riverfront, and those necessitate parking and we just don’t have it.”

With current parking options being limited to private lots, a limited amount of street parking is located about a mile away from downtown North Main Street and Krodel Park.

Main Street Point Pleasant is looking into various infrastructure grants and for private investors to fund the project in order to avoid using taxpayer money.

Main Street Point Pleasant hopes to begin construction in 2026.
