12-year-old arrested for making threat towards Lawrence County schools

UPDATE (3:02 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11): A 12-year-old girl was arrested for making a threat towards Dawson Bryant Schools in Ohio, according to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said the girl was a student at Dawson Bryant Junior High School. They said she admitted to making threats toward the school.

She is being charged with delinquency by terroristic threat and delinquency by inducing panic, the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office said. She is at the Lawrence County Juvenile Center and will be arraigned in Lawrence County Juvenile Court.

Superintendent Ellen Adkins said schools will be open on Thursday.

“I am deeply appreciative of all the text messages, phone calls, and posts from our school community that has led to fast resolution,” Adkins said on Facebook.

LAWRENCE COUNTY, OH (WOWK) — A school district in Ohio is closing its doors Wednesday over safety concerns from a reported threat.

According to posts on the Dawson-Bryant Local Schools Facebook page, a threat to the Lawrence County school district was reported to the Sheriff’s Department and an investigation has been opened. Security Administrators, Coal Grove Police Department and the Sheriff’s office will all be on heightened alert during the closure.

“Our team is working closely with local authorities to ensure a thorough and effective response. We are also implementing additional safety measures to protect all students and staff,” Superintendent Ellen Adkins said in one post .
