    FBI looking into recent school threats

    CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) — The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has released a statement regarding the recent surge in threats made towards schools across Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

    In the statement, the FBI said that they are working with other law enforcement agencies to investigate and mitigate these threats.

    “Issuing a threat of any kind promoting violence can be a violation of state and/or federal law. Those found responsible will be thoroughly investigated, and FBI Pittsburgh will immediately engage with our local, state, and federal partners to leverage the full extent of the law,” the statement said. “These threats disrupt school, waste resources, and put first responders and innocent people in unnecessary danger.”

    Recent threats include ones made towards schools in Cabell County , Kanawha County , Mingo County , a school in Milton , a school district in Ohio , a school in Kentucky and most recently schools in Mason County .

    People are asked to report any suspicious activities that could be a threat to 911, or contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI or leave an online tip .
