    Police: ‘Several young people’ arrested after threats of violence against schools

    FLATWOODS, KY (WOWK) – Several young people have been identified and arrested in connection to “threats of violence” against local schools, according to the Flatwoods Police Department .

    The arrests were made in the last 24 hours. However, police said they are still receiving information on new threats being made on social media.

    “Rest assured, together in a collaborative effort, law enforcement agencies from the Tri-State area will be working together to identify these criminals as quickly as possible and will charge them to the fullest extent the law allows no matter the age,” according to the Flatwoods Police Department.

    Multiple agencies including the Flatwoods Police Department, Ashland Police Department, Greenup County Public Safety Office, Greenup County Emergency Management Office, Kentucky Office of Homeland Security Fusion Center, as well as other local law enforcement, are working together to identify those responsible for the threats of attacks on schools.

    Threats against schools have been circulating throughout multiple schools districts in the Tri-State this past week including in Lawrence County, OH.

    According to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office , a 12-year-old girl was arrested for making a threat towards Dawson Bryant Schools. The same juvenile was using social media to make threats toward other people and schools in Ashland and Ohio , according to the Ashland Police Department.

    Multiple schools across the Tri-State are closed on Thursday due to the threats including Nicholas County Schools , Fairview Independent School District, Ironton City School District, according to posts on social media.

    Parents need to sit kids down and emphasize to not even JOKE about such a topic or BREATHE a word online about it. Some charge like this could follow you the rest of your life.
