ST. ALBANS, WV (WOWK) – Tributes to honor 9/11 victims continued into Thursday in St. Albans.

The St. Albans Fire Department unveiled a mural in the fire station on Sept. 12. It is meant to serve as a reminder of the huge responsibility first responders carry on their shoulders each and every day.

St. Albans FD Lt. Jeff Davidson is the artist behind the mural. He says not only does it serve as a reminder of service, but it also brightens up the stairwell. The image shows a firefighter holding a child in his arms under the words “Keep the Promise.”

“Chief asked me to do this mural here in the stairwell just to try to make our stairwell look better, but more importantly, to kind of serve to the guys as a reminder as they’re coming down to a call, kind of, what oath we’ve taken to do when we got hired,” said Davidson.

The artwork is located in the stairwell between the department’s living quarters and the apparatus bay. It’s where the crews can always see it, and never forget the reason why they put their lives on the line.
