UPDATE (7:44 p.m. on September 15, 2024) — New details have been released regarding the plane crash at Huntington Tri-State (HTS) Airport.

According to HTS Airport Director Brent Brown, the plane was being flown solo by a 42-year-old student pilot performing “touch-and-goes,” which is when the pilot lands and takes off again without fully stopping.

Shortly after 5 p.m., the pilot reportedly said the aircraft was pulling to one side while taking off from the runway and veered off trying to correct it. Director Brown said the pilot was having trouble stopping the plane but eventually brought the aircraft to rest as it hit the perimeter fence.

While there were no injuries, the propeller and main landing gear were damaged. The runway was closed for two hours but has been reopened.

Both the pilot and plane were not local.
