    Jackson County, West Virginia, under burn ban

    JACKSON COUNTY, WV (WOWK) – A burn ban is now in effect for Jackson County, West Virginia.

    The Jackson County, WV, 911 Communications Center announced that the Jackson County Commission issued the ban , which is in effect from Tuesday, Sept. 17, until further notice. Jackson County Emergency Services requested the ban, according to the 911 Center.

    The ban was put in place due to the extreme drought conditions and widespread wildfires impacting the region. The Jackson County Commission said these conditions have already resulted in severe damage to private property and they cause an “increased threat to life and safety.

    Kanawha County asks state officials for burn ban

    Also on Tuesday, the Kanawha County Commission asked West Virginia Governor Jim Justice and the West Virginia Division of Forestry to issue a burn ban for Kanawha County.

    Several counties in Ohio are also under a burn ban announced by the Ohio State Fire Marshal on Sept. 6. Those counties include Gallia, Jackson (OH), Meigs, Scioto, and Vinton counties in our region, along with nearby counties of Athens, Hocking, Pike and Ross counties.
