Teen dead in Ohio crash, Highway Patrol investigating

PROCTORVILLE, OH (WOWK) — A teen passenger died in a crash between two vehicles in Union Township Wednesday morning.

According to a release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, which is investigating, the crash occurred on State Route 243 near County Road 2 around 8:51 a.m.

The release said that a Ford Explorer was travelling westbound when its driver lost control, traveled left of center and struck a Jeep Wrangler. A passenger in the Ford, 16-year-old Kayla Pruitt of Proctorville, was declared deceased on the scene by the Lawrence County Coroner’s Office.

While the crash is still under investigation, impairment is not believed to have been a factor.

Also on scene were members of the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, Lawrence County EMS, Proctorville Fire Department and Union Township Fire Department.
