Cabell County mother charged in death of 10-month-old girl

CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) — A mother in Cabell County has been charged in connection to the death of her 10-month-old daughter.

According to the criminal complaint from the Magistrate Court of Cabell County, police discovered an unresponsive infant girl at a residence on 10th Avenue in Huntington around 10:36 p.m. on Aug. 13. The girl was then transported to the hospital where she was later declared dead.

The girl’s mother, 38-year-old Candace Ferrell, was determined to be the last person to see her daughter alive as she was taking care of her at the time. A search warrant executed on the residence found around 37 blue pills stamped with “M30” inside the pack and play where the child was discovered, the complaint said.

An autopsy determined that the child’s cause of death was fentanyl intoxication. Ferrell is charged with child neglect resulting in death and is being held at Western Regional Jail on a $20,000 cash only bail.
