Drought Update for West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky

(WOWK) – While we did see some much-needed rain this week, StormTracker 13 Meteorologists say that the drought will continue across Appalachia.

Extreme and exceptional drought cover most of the WOWK viewing area. While this recent drought monitor does not factor in most of the rain that we saw this week, StormTracker 13 Meteorologists do not predict any major improvements for the next week’s update.

As of yet no official burn restrictions have been placed yet in West Virginia, Ohio or Kentucky, but due to the dryness it is better to be safe than sorry. Burn restrictions will go into effect October 1st, and we will update you if the governors decide to issue them earlier this year.

When the burn restrictions go into effect in West Virginia you will not be allowed to burn between 7 am and 5 pm. In Ohio and Kentucky, the no burn times are between 6 am and 6 pm.
