ASHLAND, KY (WOWK) — The City of Ashland Board of Commissioners passed an ordinance to allow the city to purchase the Paramount Arts Center.

That’s according to the city’s public information officer, Erica Bonner.

The ordinance allows the city to purchase the building along with various others in the area for $3 million.

The city said in a press release a few days ago that the Paramount will continue to operate the venue.

Earlier in September, the venue said they were having trouble staying afloat due to rising costs and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Paramount Arts Center began as a movie theater called the Paramount Theatre in 1931, according to their website. It was renamed the Paramount Arts Center in 1972.
