Power Outage Preparation ahead of Severe Weather

(WOWK) – Hurricane Helene is causing problems across the southeast, and StormTracker 13 Meteorologists predict that she will even cause some impacts in our area.

Some forecast models show wind gusts climbing up to 50 miles per hour is some areas tomorrow afternoon. The strongest winds will be to the west and south, however everyone will have the potential to see damaging winds.

Power outages are likely so now is the time to plan and get your emergency kit ready. Here’s some things you may want in your kit:

• Food
• Water
• Flashlights
• Batteries
• Necessary medication

Take this as a reminder to charge your phone and laptops overnight so they have charge in the event you lose power in the morning.

Also, you may want to bring your Halloween decorations indoors for tomorrow. It would also be a good idea to bring trashcans into the garage or at least next to the house and out of the wind. With winds like these a good rule of thumb for outdoor items you want to keep is “bring them in or strap them down!”
