BUFFALO, WV (WOWK) – A severe drought has been affecting farmers across our region, but one Putnam County farm says it’s full speed ahead for the fall!

Fall is officially in the air, and Gritt’s Farm is celebrating the sweater weather with their annual ‘Fun Farm.’ The event started over ten years ago and has branched out to over thirty attractions for guests to enjoy. This year guests can enjoy the brand new bubble barn, and a new seasonal treat ‘The Farmer Float.’

“Gritts Farm was established in 1927 … it is currently a three-season plant and produce farm and every fall we do a seven-week fall festival called Gritts Fun Farm,” says Alexandra Pfost with Gritt’s Farm.

Workers say that people come from all over the country to visit the farm during the fall time and that October is its busiest season. Guests can visit the pumpkin patches, enjoy a tasty hand-baked treat, or even visit the goats! The farm also hosts school field trips to come and learn about the science and history of the farm.

“It’s very educational to come out to Gritt’s Fun Farm. We love hosting school groups. There’s so much family history here and hard work that’s been built into all of this,” says Pfost.

Parents and chaperones also have a good time and say that kids have a blast spending time outdoors.

“They spend a lot of time outside. You know giving kids things to do outside is awesome. It’s awesome for this place to do that for the kids too,” says Shane Maultsby, whose son was visiting the farm on a school trip Thursday.

Staff says that despite the drought, they are grateful to offer this experience to families and visitors of the farm each and every year.
