MASON/JACKSON COUNTIES, WV (WOWK) – Mason and Jackson counties have joined a growing list of counties that have lifted their burn bans as rain from now-Tropical Storm Helene reaches the Tri-State.

The Mason County Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management made the announcement Thursday that the burn ban would be lifted effective Friday. The ban was originally put in place on Sept. 19 due to the extreme drought conditions throughout the region.

The Jackson County 911 Communications Center made its announcement Friday and said the ban was being lifted immediately. Jackson County first put its burn ban in place on Sept. 17.

The organizations remind people to continue following West Virginia Division of Forestry guidelines while burning. Emergency management officials have also been reminding people that the state’s regular forest fire season begins Oct. 1, and by state law, all daytime burning will be prohibited until Dec. 31 once the season begins.
