    Power outages reported in West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky from Helene remnants

    UPDATE: (8:00 P.M. Saturday, Sept. 28) – Several customers are still without power across the Tri-State as remnants of Helene swept through the region Friday.

    As of 8:00 p.m.:

    Appalachian Power is showing a total of more than 37,000 outages in West Virginia alone. Between West Virginia, Virginia and Tennessee, they had a peak number of outages at roughly 281,000. They say that number is now down to about 177,000 outages.

    Kentucky Power is showing a total of 874 outages that are impacting at least 16,670 customers in their coverage area, while AEP Ohio is showing 28,560 customers without power across the state. Kentucky Power officials say at the peak of Friday’s weather event, they had more than 44,000 customers without power.

    Mon Power is reporting 904 current outages in West Virginia, Big Sandy RECC is reporting 736 customer outages in Kentucky, and Buckeye Rural is reporting 7,120 outages in southeastern Ohio.


    UPDATE: (1:30 P.M. Saturday, Sept. 28) – Several customers are still without power across the Tri-State as remnants of Helene swept through the region Friday.

    As of 1:30 p.m.:

    Appalachian Power is showing a total of more than 53,000 outages in West Virginia alone. Between West Virginia, Virginia and Tennessee, they had a peak number of outages at roughly 281,000. They say that number is now down to about 216,000 outages.

    Kentucky Power is showing a total of 916 outages that are impacting at least 25,490 customers in their coverage area, while AEP Ohio is showing 38,190 customers without power across the state. Kentucky Power officials say at the peak of Friday’s weather event, they had more than 44,000 customers without power.

    Mon Power is reporting 5,435 current outages in West Virginia, Big Sandy RECC is reporting 923 customer outages in Kentucky, and Buckeye Rural is reporting 8,346 outages in southeastern Ohio.


    UPDATE: (7 P.M. Friday, Sept. 27) – Several customers are still without power across the Tri-State as remnants of Helene swept through the region Friday.

    As of 7:00 p.m.:

    Appalachian Power is showing a total of more than 82,000 outages in West Virginia alone. Between West Virginia, Virginia and Tennessee, they had a peak number of outages at roughly 281,000. They say that number is now down to about 273,000 outages. They have also increased their crew assessing damage from 1,000 to 2,500.

    Kentucky Power is showing a total of 785 outages that are impacting at least 40,467 customers in their coverage area, while AEP Ohio is showing 78,560 customers without power across the state. Kentucky Power officials say at the peak of Friday’s weather event, they had more than 44,000 customers without power.

    Mon Power is reporting 10,004 current outages in West Virginia, Big Sandy RECC is reporting 2,148 customer outages in Kentucky, and Buckeye Rural is reporting 8,269 outages in southeastern Ohio.


    CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – The remnants from Hurricane Helene are causing power outages throughout the Tri-State.

    Appalachian Power says throughout West Virginia, Virginia and Tennessee, they currently have more than 219,000 customers without power, and expect that number to increase. Roughly 39,000 of those customers are in West Virginia.

    Officials with Appalachian Power say their crews are working to assess damages where they safely can. More than 1,000 employees and contractors have been dedicated to storm restoration work and mutual assistance crews are en route from Ohio, Indiana and Michigan.

    Appalachian Power urges customers to check on their neighbors and ensure they have a plan for their families as well as their pets, and to have an emergency kit prepared with non-perishables, water, flashlights, batteries, and a first aid kit. People should also make sure their devices are charged if possible.
