LOUDENDALE, WV (WOWK) – While some parts of the Mountain State were battered by remnants of Helene, Tennessee was also majorly impacted by the hurricane’s aftermath.

Because of the damage in the Volunteer State, first responders from our area are putting boots on the ground and stepping into action to volunteer their services to the people of Tennessee.

The Loudendale Volunteer Fire Department in Kanawha County is going the extra mile by mobilizing one of their firetrucks to take supplies to those in need. They also plan to leave one of their firetrucks behind in Tennessee because many fire departments there lost everything they had.

“In 2003, this community had a very large amount of water go through it. A lot of people lost their homes. There was a lot of damage out here. There was also a fatality out here because of the stormwater. So, it touched are hearts because of that, because of our experience and our past We want to be able to help those that have experienced the same thing,” said William Eads, Loudendale VFD public information officer.

They plan to leave West Virginia by Wednesday, but they need donations of supplies to take with them. Some items on the list include personal hygiene products, tents, batteries, non-perishables and generators.
