CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – Six broadcast legends were named to the West Virginia Broadcasting Hall of Fame this year, and two of them are some of Charleston’s most familiar voices.

Jeff Jenkins and Woody Woods have broadcasting on the radio for a combined 62 years. They were chosen to be a part of the 2024 Hall of Fame class.

Jenkins grew up in Pratt before getting his start as an intern at West Virginia Radio, now WVRC Media. He rose through the ranks to become president. Jenkins earned the trust of his listeners through his encyclopedic knowledge of the market.

“I always think it’s about trust. People trust you and know you’re going to be fair with them, so they’re going to give you information. It’s all about relationships. People telling you things, telling you things, trusting you with the information,” Jenkins said.

Woods made his name as one of Charleston’s most charismatic personalities on and off the air. In addition to being the voice of The Beat 107.3 since 2000, he holds an annual backpack giveaway during back-to-school season, and he coaches little league sports. He’s made Charleston his home ever since moving here from Indiana.

Going into the Hall of Fame takes more than talent alone. It requires years of dedication to the craft, and going above and beyond to entertain and inform audiences. It’s a craft that Jenkins and Woods both mastered.

“Growing up, I would listen to CHS radio 580. That’s what I would listen to growing up. That’s what my father listened to. That’s how I listened to the Reds and the Mountaineers. To be able to work there has been pretty cool,” Jenkins said.

“It was an honor. It brought tears to my eyes. It’s one of those things when your peers vote you in by something you do and you love,” Woods said.
