East Bank Middle School hosts final home football game

EAST BANK, WV (WOWK) – An Eastern Kanawha County middle school is hosting its last home football game Thursday night.

It’s a bittersweet day for East Bank Middle School. While football players and cheerleaders celebrate their last “hoorah,” the school is also welcoming all East Bank Middle School, High School, and Junior High band and cheerleading alumni for a special half-time celebration.

The game kicked off at 6:30 p.m. Thursday on Calvert Field.

The school has faced many issues leading up to tonight’s final match-up. The team was previously told they couldn’t play on the field because of unsafe conditions over the bleachers and locker rooms.

Those bleachers and locker rooms have since been demolished , and portables were put up so practices and games could continue .

East Bank Middle School is also at risk of consolidation . The Kanawha County School District and Board of Education are considering the closure of six schools, which would have East Bank Middle School students going to DuPont Middle School. A severe drop in enrollment and budget issues are cited as reasons for the proposal.
