CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – Less than a week after Hurricane Helene tore through parts of the Southeast, West Virginians are already stepping up to help.

Staff at the Mountain Mission in Charleston are planning to send a 53-foot tractor-trailer full of supplies to North Carolina, one of the hardest hit areas, and are asking for the public’s help filling it up.

Mountain Mission staff are asking people to think of what survivors could really use in this time of need such as first aid kits, bottled water, self-hygiene items, or similar items. Executive Director John Roberts says that even if this helps a handful of people, the effort will be worth it.

“We can’t do everything for everybody, we know that. But God gave us some hands and some feet and some tools. It may be dollars, it may be items, but God gave us those blessings. We need to share that with those who may not have what we have right now,” says Roberts.

The organization is also accepting monetary donations on the Mountain Mission website . They just ask that those who want to help reference Hurricane Helene when donating. Donations will be distributed to those in need by a group Mountain Mission is currently working with based in Asheville.
