OHIO (WOWK) – While fall is just beginning, it’s never too early for the Ohio Department of Transportation to prepare for the winter season.

ODOT District 10 hosted its annual winter readiness event on Friday. The event allows crews to make sure all their equipment is in good, working condition. Engineers were also on hand to check the vehicles so any needed repairs can be made well before the frigid temperatures and snow arrive.

“These events are happening today at every garage all across the state over the next several weeks. And so, what we’re doing is conducting 150-point inspections on each plow truck, really just gearing up for winter, being proactive, making sure that our equipment is ready when those first snowflakes are flying,” said Ashley Rittenhouse, ODOT District 10 public information officer.

ODOT also asks drivers to be prepared when the snowplows hit the road, reminding everyone to give the crews plenty of room.
