Human remains found along Ohio River

PORTSMOUTH, OH (WOWK) — Unidentified human remains were discovered along the Ohio River’s edge in Portsmouth Saturday afternoon, according to a release from the Portsmouth Police Department.

The remains were reported to police around 2:37 p.m. on the Ohio riverfront east of the Offnere Street river access. The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office will perform an autopsy on the remains, which were found in an “advanced state of decomposition,” the release said.

The identity of the deceased individual has not been determined. Anyone with information related to the case is asked to reached out to the Portsmouth Police Department at 740-353-4101 or the Detective Bureau at 740-354-1600.

The Portsmouth Fire Department and EMS assisted in the recovery.
