UPDATE (10:22 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10): In a statement from the Greenbrier, they said the advertisement is “merely a procedural matter” and, “It in no way reflects any change in the parties’ relationship or The Greenbrier’s plan regarding payment.”

GREENBRIER COUNTY, WV (WOWK) — A hotel owned by the family of U.S. Senate candidate and Gov. Jim Justice is being put up for auction for a second time this year due to default, according to a notice of trustee’s sale posted in the West Virginia Daily News .

The Greenbrier Hotel auction is scheduled to take place on Oct. 25 at 2 p.m. at the Greenbrier County Courthouse, according to the document. It will be sold to the highest bidder.

This isn’t the first time this has happened in 2024. Back in August, the hotel was put up for auction due to default .

According to a spokesperson in August, the loan in question was sold to Beltway Capital and immediately declared in default. They called the move deceitful and a political stunt.

A statement from the Justice Companies called the auction, “Another political stunt by the Democrat machine,” and said the governor, “has had a long standing personal banking relationship with JPMorgan Chase dating back decades. As part of that relationship the Governor had pledged a second lien position in the Greenbrier Resort behind Carter Bank & Trust to obtain better banking terms from JPMorgan Chase. Over the past several years the Governor has paid down his debt to JPMorgan substantially.”

The auction was scheduled for Aug. 27, but an agreement was reached between the family and Beltway Capital days before . The statement from the Justice Companies said the governor would give a specific amount of money to Beltway Capital by Oct. 24.

According to The Greenbrier’s website, Gov. Justice bought the resort in 2009 from CSX Corporation.
