WEST VIRGINIA (WOWK) – Some resources that could help students in need, in more ways than one, are receiving some major funding.

The Ball Toyota Family of Dealerships in West Virginia has donated more than $650,000 to education organizations in the area and their programs. Working closely with school leadership, the money will go toward providing essential items to students such as food, shoes and winter coats.

The funds will also go toward establishing virtual pantries in hundreds of schools. Virtual pantries are online pantries that help identify the needs in a community and discretely offer help to those in need.

“The Ball Family’s donation would go to things like a winter jacket or maybe a weekend supply of food, or sometimes it could go toward something like a family’s lost their power and they might need the electricity turned back on,” said Joedy Cunningham, Huntington High School Principal.

A donation of $250,000 was also given to Marshall University.
