UPDATE (11:45 a.m., Friday, Oct. 11) – A precautionary lockdown at New Haven Elementary has been lifted, according to a message sent to parents by Mason County Schools.

According to the message several agencies responded and gave the all-clear. The message also says no threats were made toward the school and all students and staff are safe.

WOWK 13 News is working to learn more about what caused the precautionary lockdown.

NEW HAVEN, WV (WOWK) – New Haven Elementary School is currently on a precautionary lockdown.

Officials stated that the lockdown was only a precaution, but say they could not release further information at this time. Parents of NHES students received a message that law enforcement officers were on site to “ensure the safety of our students and staff.”

The precautionary lockdown came shortly after Mason County Schools concluded a Shelter in Place Drill at all MCS schools. The drill was in partnership with Mason County Emergency Management and Mason County LEPC.
