Residents react to upcoming Culloden Food Fair closure

CULLODEN, WV (WOWK)– Food Fair posted on their Facebook Friday that the store in Culloden will be closing.

Once the store closes, there will be no grocery stores in Culloden. Residents will have to either travel to the Food Fair in Milton or the Walmart in Hurricane.

13 News reached out to Food Fair to elaborate on the decision to close, however they had no comment. The post, however, cites a consumer shift towards the Food Fair location in Milton.

Some residents expressed their concerns about the loss of the grocery store saying that those who don’t have access to a car would be disadvantaged.

“I think it’s going to be hard because some people probably don’t have access to go out to the other stores,” said Linda Swan, a Culloden resident.

Swan has shopped at the Food Fair for decades and is sad to see the store go.

Many residents told 13 News they did not want the store to close, saying that plenty of people still use this location.

“This is needed,” said Elizabeth Gibson. “It’s a need. It’s here. It’s utilized.”

The store will officially be closing its doors on Oct. 31.
