KANAWHA COUNTY, WV (WOWK) – There’s a new name in the West Virginia State University ROTC Hall of Fame.

Lieutenant Colonel Alice Hampton Smith is a WVSU Alumna who now serves for the Georgia Army National Guard as the deputy commander for the 201st Regional Support Group Forward. On Friday, she was inducted into WVSU’s ROTC Hall of Fame.

Smith received a two-year scholarship in the program before serving three years in the West Virginia National Guard. She made the move to Georgia in 1997. This honor at Friday’s ceremony adds to the Lieutenant Colonel’s long list of decorations!

“Truly humbled that, you know, the university would think that much of me to give me this honor. And grateful, one, to God, just for allowing me to be blessed as he has throughout my whole career, and just thankful to my family, my friends and everyone that I met here at West Virginia State ,” Lt. Col. Hampton Smith said.

The ROTC Hall of Fame at WVSU was started in 1980. Since then, more than 170 service members have been inducted.
