KANAWHA COUNTY, WV (WOWK) – Some much-needed supplies are on the way to Western North Carolina for those who lost so much in Hurricane Helene.

It’s all thanks to the Mountain Mission in Charleston and the generous community members who stepped up to donate. Before the trailer took off, the organization held a prayer circle around the supplies and those who are taking them for safety on the journey.

This shipment contains everything from bottled water and first aid to baby products and cleaning kits. After the devastating floods our own region saw in 2016, folks with Mountain Mission say this drive was the least they could do to help our neighbors in need in North Carolina.

“We needed this help back in 2016, dealing with the flood here. And it warms my heart to know that when you put the call out and you say ‘Hey, we need help to help our neighbors in need,’ people in Charleston and Kanawha Valley, you know, all across the state, have helped out,” said John Roberts, executive director of Mountain Mission.

While this shipment is on its way south, the Mountain Mission will still be continuing to accept help for Hurricane Helene relief next week.
