Pursuit, manhunt ends in arrests in Mason County

UPDATE (9:10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 14): The man and woman in the Monday morning cross-county pursuit are in custody, according to Mason County Emergency Management.

The Mason County Sheriff’s Office said the woman—whose name has not been released—and Brandon Burton were found lying in brush shortly after the search was started. The woman was taken into custody, but Burton got away.

Law enforcement told 13 News that Burton was seen by workers at a Dollar General around 8:15 a.m. He was arrested on Route 2 near the store.

Neither were armed at the time of their arrests, according to the Mason County Sheriff’s Office.

They said both have ties to Canton, Ohio, and Burton has been convicted of armed robbery and multiple fleeing from police charges. He also has a criminal history in North and South Carolina.

MASON COUNTY, WV (WOWK) — One person has been arrested and another is on the run considered armed and dangerous after a cross-county pursuit ended in Mason County Monday morning.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, the pursuit started in Jackson County around 1 a.m. They say two suspects led law enforcement on a pursuit that ended on Ripley Road in Point Pleasant. The suspect’s vehicle crashed into a Jackson County deputy’s vehicle, which resulted in multiple powerlines being taken out.

One woman was taken into custody. Authorities say another suspect, Brandon Clark Burton, is at large and considered armed and dangerous. West Virginia State Police, Jackson and Mason Sheriffs are searching for Burton. Ripley Road is shut down at this time.
