CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – The Mountain State’s inaugural Filipino-American Festival is set to take place this coming weekend, and on Monday, West Virginia Governor Jim Justice signed a proclamation for the event.

The festival will take place Saturday, Oct. 19, at the West Virginia State Capitol, and feature traditional Filipino foods, cultural dances, games and colorful marches! Organizers say they can’t wait to share their history and heritage at the event.

“It’s going to be really exciting getting to share our culture, our heritage with the Charleston community and surrounding areas,” said Freddy Frye, president of the Filipino-American Association of West Virginia . “We’re really looking forward to spreading our culture across the state, across the community. Looking forward to sharing our food, our dance – traditional dance – that we will be having going on, our different cultural events.”

The festival begins at 1 p.m. Saturday and runs through 6 p.m. that evening.
