CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – A motorcyclist killed in a vehicle crash Friday has been identified.

According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, Carl David Simpkins II, 37, of Raleigh, North Carolina, passed away at the hospital after the crash.

The KCSO says the crash happened just before noon Friday when Simpkins was exiting I-77 at Kanawha Boulevard E when a car crossed in front of him toward Piedmont Road. Deputies say Simpkins was not able to stop in time and struck the car.

Simpkins was then taken to CAMC General Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Deputies say the driver of the car, a 20-year-old man, was cooperative with investigators at the scene. The KCSO says the driver was not under the influence of any drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash.

While no charges have been filed, deputies say the investigation into the crash is ongoing, and the findings will be presented to the Kanawha County Prosecutor’s Office.

The KCSO asks that anyone with any information about the crash contact Sgt. J.L. Lester at 304-357-0732.
