NITRO, WV (WOWK) — Utility bills are expected to increase after the Nitro city council voted to sell Nitro Regional Wastewater to West Virginia American Water during a meeting Tuesday. The vote was 7-1.

Nitro Mayor Dave Casebolt told 13 News a few weeks prior that the city could not afford the upkeep and upgrades that the facility needed. A spokesperson said it’s not clear when the property transfer will happen at this time.

The average customer can expect their utility bills to gradually increase over a few years until it reaches the maximum rate for West Virginia American Water.

Of course they will raise the monthly rate. We're handing over our sewer utility to a large corporation. The PSC always gives them everything they want when they ask for rate increases. Local government is screwing us over with this sale.
