PUTNAM COUNTY, WV (WOWK) – The Putnam County Commission says they are making progress with the project to bring faster internet speed to more customers.

Putnam County started installing underground fiber optic cables back in January, and once complete, businesses and homes will have access to high-speed internet. Residents say this is something they’ve struggled with for years.

But now, Putnam County Commission President Andy Skidmore says the project is close to crossing the finish line.

“We just had a couple addendums, or changes, to the project. The project is still moving forward. We’re about 80-85% complete at this point,” Skidmore said. “Some of the bearing has slowed down, but we’re pulling cable, pulling fiber at this time. So, we’re excited, getting close to the finish line.”

Skidmore says they’re hoping to be 100% finished with installations by early 2025.
